Project Description

Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) dredges the Ok Tedi river to remove sand-sized tailings from the river channel which are then stockpiled on the floodplain in two large dredged tailing stockpiles. OTML is actively working to rehabilitate these tailings with native tropical forest species.

OTML initially contracted GSA to perform a 3rd party review of their tailings rehabilitation program and to provide recommendations to improve revegetation success. We continue to provide interdisciplinary scientific support to various aspects of their reclamation program including performing alternative restoration analyses, designing greenhouse and field trials, developing monitoring protocols, and reviewing rehabilitation design plans.
